Board & Train Dog Training for Brightwaters, NY

No time to train your dog every single day? K9 Advanced takes dogs from Brightwaters, NY 11718 for a two-week or four-week intensive program, then hands back a dog who listens, along with the instructions and the coaching to keep him that way.

Over twenty years of training Long Island dogs. A limited number of dogs are taken at a time, because a board and train program running twelve dogs at once is a boarding kennel with a better name on the sign. The consultation is free.

Local Knowledge

Board & Train For Brightwaters Dogs: Why It Works Here

Brightwaters is an incorporated village of about a square mile, laid out around the chain of lakes that runs down Windsor Avenue to the canal and out to the Great South Bay. The streets are wide, tree lined and built for walking, and the village sits inside the Bay Shore school district.

A village this walkable is both a gift and a trap. People walk more here than almost anywhere on the South Shore, which means a dog with no leash discipline rehearses the bad version hundreds of times a month. Every pull, every lunge at a passing dog, every drag toward the water gets practiced until it stops being a mistake and becomes the dog's default setting.

The lake paths and village streets are the proofing ground, controlled at first, then at the times of day when other dogs and joggers are actually out.

What Brightwaters Owners Call Us About Most

Why Brightwaters Owners Choose Us

Over 20 Years Training Long Island Dogs

Daily One-On-One Work, Not Kennel Time

Your dog trains in short repeated sessions throughout the day with structured downtime in between. Repetition spread across a whole day is what builds a habit. One class a day and twenty-three hours in a run does not.

Two Weeks Or Four, Chosen Honestly

Two weeks covers manners, obedience and leash control. Four adds supervised off-leash work and real-world outings. We will tell you which one your dog actually needs, including when the honest answer is that in-home sessions would serve you better.

The Go-Home Lesson Is Part Of The Program

A trained dog handed back to an untrained household reverts inside a month. Before your dog leaves we teach you the commands, the timing and the household rules, and we are direct with you about what happens if they get dropped.

Straightforward Drop-Off From Brightwaters

We are in East Islip, a short drive from Brightwaters. Drop-off, updates during the stay and the go-home session are all scheduled around a normal working week.

Board & Train Is Built For You If

The Process

How It Works, Start To Finish

  1. The Phone Call

Describe the behavior in plain terms, including the parts that are embarrassing. The more honest the description, the more useful the first visit is. It costs nothing.

  2. The Assessment

We come out and read the dog: how he handles a doorway, a stranger, a leash and a correction. You will hear what is actually driving the behavior, including the parts of the household routine that are feeding it.

  3. The Program

In-home sessions, a two-week board and train or a four-week board and train, priced and scheduled up front. If a cheaper option would serve you better, we say so.

  4. The Handover

Every program ends with you holding the leash and the rules. A dog trained for you but not with you goes back to his old self inside a month.

Pricing

What Board & Train Costs

Board and train is a flat rate for the two-week or the four-week program, and the number depends on your dog's age, size and what genuinely needs correcting. We do not publish one price because the honest answer is that a nine-month-old lab who jumps is a different job from a four-year-old shepherd who guards. Call, describe the behavior, and you will have an exact figure and a start date before you commit to anything.

Brightwaters Questions

Before You Call

Do you take dogs from Brightwaters?

Yes. Brightwaters and the 11718 area are part of our regular service area, along with Bay Shore, Islip, Great River and the rest of Suffolk County. We also take dogs from across Nassau County.

What is the difference between the 2-week and the 4-week program?

The two-week intensive covers greeting people without jumping, sit, down, place, stay and recall, loose-leash walking and heel, socialization with other dogs and household manners. The four-week program includes all of that and adds off-leash work in weeks three and four, plus supervised outings into real-world distraction so the obedience holds away from home.

Where does my dog stay during the program?

Your dog lives in a home environment with structure, supervision and genuine downtime between training sessions rather than sitting in a kennel run waiting for the next class. Ask on the phone and we will walk you through the daily schedule.

Can I visit or get updates during the stay?

You will get updates while your dog is with us. Visits are handled case by case, because an early visit can undo a week of progress with a dog who is still settling into the new structure.

What do I need to bring at drop-off?

Your dog's regular food, his bedding and current vaccination records. Keep the food the same. A diet change on top of a new routine is how you end up with an upset stomach in week one.

Will the training hold once my dog comes home?

It holds when the household holds the line, which is exactly why the go-home lesson is built into the program instead of sold as an extra. You get the commands, the timing and the rules, and we are candid about what happens if they get dropped.

How far in advance should I book?

Only a limited number of dogs are taken at a time, so spots fill and the calendar moves. Call 631-405-4220 for the next available start date.
